
Women's Soccer Falls to Canadian Nation Team

Louisville, Ky. - The Louisville women's soccer team fell 9-0 to the Canadian National team on Saturday afternoon in Cardinal Park. Christine Sinclair led the Canadians with two goals and an assist while Rhian Wilkinson added three assists and a goal.
"I thought we played well against one of the top teams in the world," said head coach Karen Ferguson. "I am proud of the way we played today. I saw some really positive things and it will really help us at the collegiate level."
Sinclair got the Canadian offense going early, scoring off a cross from Rhian Wilkinson at the 4:41 mark. Sinclair then assisted Wilkinson's goal at the 6:09 mark. Canada's Brittany Timko scored off a cross from Melanie Booth in the ninth minute to put Canada up 3-0 in the early minutes.
In the 29th minute of play, Sasha Andrews connected off an assist from Rhian Wilkinson in front of the goal. Sinclair then scored one-on-one in the 39th minute of play. Canada finished the half with a goal by Charmaine Hooper to go up 6-0 at the half.
The Cardinal defense did a better job in the second half of containing the Canadian front. Timko scored an unassisted goal in the 46th minute. The Canadians didn't score again until Amber Allen scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Then Kara Lang scored in the 86th minute off a free kick to give the Canadians a 9-0 win.
Cardinal keeper Kim DeBolt, usually a field player, finished with four saves on the day. Canadian keeper Erin McLeod finished with two saves.
