Five Players Sign With the Cards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville Trinity outfielder Nate Holland, infielder Phil Wunderlich, junior college standout infielder John Dao and pitchers Gabriel Shaw and Jon Clarence have all signed letters of intent to join the University of Louisville baseball team.
The five signees join outfielders Drew Haynes and Stewart Ijames, infielders Grason Wiggins and Tyler Mikits and pitchers Dean Kiekhefer, Neil Holland and Thomas Royse as part of the 2006-07 early signing period. They will be on campus this fall and eligible to compete in the spring of 2008.

Named a seventh region All-Star, Kentucky West All-Star and Kentucky All-State, earning three letters from the Shamrocks. Has 24 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, 95 RBI, 104 runs scored and 73 steals in three season of prep baseball. Named academic All-State.
Phil Wunderlich
3B/1B
Chicago, Ill./Downers Grove HS
Three-year letter winner as a corner infielder for the Mustangs he has been named All-Conference, All-Area and All-State. Batted .491 with 15 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and drove in 58 runs as a junior, while posting a 5-1 record on the hill. Hit .427 with eight doubles, six home runs and 36 RBI his sophomore season, also lettering in football as a tight end. Has earned three academic letters and was a Wendy's high school Heisman nominee.
John Dao
2B/SS
Fort Worth, Texas/Northeast Texas CC
Hit .401 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 40 RBI and 40 stolen bases as a junior college freshman, striking out only eight times all season and earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. Also named to the TXNM JUCO All-Star team. A three-year All-Conference selection at Trinity Valley HS, earning All-State team as a junior and senior. Broke the school record for batting average, hitting .583 his sophomore season, hitting over .500 in each of his four years of high school. Totalled 51 doubles, 18 triples, eight home runs, 148 RBI, 127 runs and 56 steals in high school.
Gabriel Shaw

Paducah, Ky./St.Mary's HS
An All-State selection his junior season, going 12-1 with a 0.44 ERA and 106 strikeouts. He has earned four letters in baseball entering his senior season. An All-Region I performer, he was MVP of the regional tournament, helping the Vikings to a regional and sub-state championship. Has posted a 28-6 record on the hill with 286 strikeouts and seven saves. Has also belted 15 home runs and driven in 86 runs. A four-year letterman in basketball, he has scored over 1,000 point in his prep career.
Jon Clarence

Columbus, Ind./Columbus North HS
Has earned three letters for the Bulldogs, earning All-Conference honors. Has won 15 games with 174 strikeouts in 142.0 IP over three seasons of prep baseball. Selected to play on Team Indiana. Also has three letters as a forward on the hockey team helping the team to state runner-up finish as the second leading scorer.
