The University of Louisville women's tennis team upened Arkansas-Little Rock 6-1 by taking the doubles point and five of six singles matches.

"We played well, said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "I thought we played particularly well at the No. 1 doubles and then No. 1 and No. 2 singles."

U of L won the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 slot. Maria Klokotzky and Robyn White paired to beat Jenna Hirdle and Outi Jarvinen at the No.1 spot with an 8-2 win. Ariana Marshall and Stephanie Velazquez were beaten 8-3 at the second spot, but the veteran Cardinal team of Suzanna Gracanin and Natalie Laszkowski handled Laeticia Bourgeon and Holli Robinson 8-2 to tip the point to the Cardinal side.

"One of our goals this year was to be a better road team," said Davis. "We know we have to be better on the road than we were a year ago. I think our strength this year is our depth. We have eight players than can step out on the court and contribute with no drop in talent. That is such a nice luxury for us this year."

Klokotzky took her No. 1 singles match easily with a score of 6-0, 6-1. White handled Hirdle 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Jarvinen proved tough in the singles with UALR's only singles win, a 6-0, 6-3 win over freshman Bianca Gorbea. Gracanin battled to a win the only three set match at No. 4. She took the first set 6-1, fell 6-2 and then won 10-3. Laszkowski held off a Bourgeon challenge in the second set to win 6-2, 6-4. Marshall beat Rosario Negrete 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Cardinals travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on Arkansas State tomorrow.
