CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A bases-loaded walk pushed across the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth, as Charlotte edged the University of Louisville 3-2 on Saturday, evening the weekend series at a game apiece. The rubber game will be played Sunday at Noon ET.
Greg Taylor singled with the bases loaded, scoring Isaiah Howes, and a safety squeeze by Chris Cates plated Logan Johnson, putting the Cards(25-19, 11-11 C-USA) up 2-0 in the fourth.
Two Cardinal errors and a stolen base put Charlotte's Cory Lane at third in the bottom of the fifth, and he later scored on a groundout by Alex Bryant, cutting the Cardinal lead to 2-1.
Chris Lane's RBI single in the seventh tied the game at two.
In the ninth, Corey Lane singled to open the inning, and Chris Lane's sac bunt moved him to second. Bryant singled to the left side of the infield, putting runners at the corners with one out. U of L pitcher Jon Harbridge gloved a comebacker by Mike Ambrose, but drew Cates off the bag at second with a high throw, loading the bases for O'Brien Taylor.
The winning run scored on a 3-2 pitch.
Harbridge (3-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing the unearned run on two hits and a walk, striking out one in two innings. He came on in the eighth with the bases loaded and one out, and induced a fielder's choice ground ball and a strikeout.
Scott Jenkins went a career-long 6.1 innings, giving up two runs, one of which was earned, on seven hits and two walks. He struck out three in the start.
Charlotte closer Erik Walker (3-2) picked up the win, striking out the only batter he faced.
