
Women's Soccer Signs Four

LOUISVILLE, KY- The University of Louisville women's soccer team has announced the addition of four prep athletes who will join U of L this fall.
Mallory Lampson, Jessica Mello, Shannon Smyth and Deana Waintraub make up the four player class, that will join the Cards in their first season in the BIG EAST conference.
"We are very excited to announce the signing of four new student-athletes to the Cardinal Soccer family. Shannon, Jessica, Mallory, and Deana are truly committed to being successful on the field and in the classroom," noted Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"They are all tremendously talented, very passionate about the game and each will help us with our ultimate goal of advancing to the NCAA tournament. The Cardinal Soccer program is extremely excited about the addition of these wonderful young women," Ferguson added.
The Cards completed the most successful season in school history in 2004, sporting a 12-5-3 mark in the final season in Conference USA. The BIG EAST placed five teams in the 2004 NCAA tournament, including National Champion Notre Dame.
Here's a look at the 2005 incoming freshman class:
Mallory Lampson (Columbus, OH/Ohio Premiere) Her Club Team won the Ohio South State Cup Championship in 2002, '03 and '04....A four-year member of the ODP Ohio State South Team. Played three seasons with the Ohio Premier Fall Team. Earned sportsmanship award in 2001.
Jessica Mello (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati United Premiere) A four-year letterwinner and three-time team MVP at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Twice earned All-City and First Team All-Conference honors, was 2nd Team All-State, NSCAA/adidas All-Region Team and FAVC Player of the Year in 2004. Started every game in her four seasons, she was her club and HS team Co-Captain. Was her class Valedictorian.
Shannon Smyth (Milwaukee, WI/FC Milwaukee) Has earned three letters, with her senior season still remaining, and has scored 52 goals and 20 assists in 63 games for Divine Savior in Milwaukee. Named 2nd Team All-Conference as a freshman, 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All- Area her sophomore season. Was 1st Team All-Conference, All-Area and All-State her junior year. An eight-year member of the FC Milwaukee Nationals. Has been captain of the Wisconsin ODP State Team since '01. On the Regional Team in '01 & '02 and Regional Pool '03 & '04. Three-time Interscholastic Athlete Award winner.
Deana Waintraub (Richmond Hills, Ontario) Played for the Richmond Hill Raiders from 1999-2003, and the Unionville Strikers U18 in 2004. Was Athletic Council President as a senior, a member of the academic honor roll, and 2004 Outstanding Senior Leadership in Athletics Award winner.
