CINCINNATI, OH - The University of Louisville women's soccer team played the University of Dayton to a 2-2 tie Saturday as part of the annual Blue Chip College Showcase in northern Cincinnati. The event hosts club teams from all over North America and is highlighted by college exhibition matches during the weekend.
"We were excited to play at this event and we were looking forward to competing against a program as accomplished as Dayton." Said Louisville Assistant Coach Tim Nowak.
Twice the Card's came from a goal down to earn the tie. Twenty minutes into the first half the Flyers capitalized on a rebound from a corner kick to make the score 1-0.
At the thirty-minute mark the Cards equalized the score when Mandy Rost placed a Lisa Martin cross over the goalkeepers head and into the Dayton goal.
The Flyers went ahead 2-1 off another goal from a corner kick, but the Cards looked to respond but came up short when Martin redirected Tara Weatherford's cross off the near post.
Louisville continued to get chances as the half progressed and finally knotted the score at two when Liz Kinny finished a Jamie Craft cross.
Both teams had good opportunities to take the lead in the games closing minutes but both goalkeepers were able to help preserve the tie.
"The team played well today," said Nowak.
"We created some good scoring chances and were very competitive in coming back twice from a goal down. Dayton is an outstanding team and we are pleased with our performance but we cannot be satisfied. We have to remain focused as we finish the spring season on Wednesday night against Cincinnati."
The Cardinals will host the Bearcats on Wednesday night at Cardinal Park. Kickoff is at 8:00 and admission is free.
