
Cards Drop Two in Baseball

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville baseball team dropped a pair of games to Kent State on Saturday, the first game a resumption of a game delayed by rain Friday 3-1 and the second 6-3.
Picking up in the bottom of the second, trailing 1-0 to Kent(3-6), the Cards loaded the bases in the fifth and third baseman Ryan McKinnon was hit by a pitch to tie the game at one.
Kent answered with the go-ahead run in the sixth on a sac fly by DH Marshall Woods, and added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the win.
Flash starter Andy Sonnastine (2-1) earned the win for Kent and Phil Bojc picked up his first save of the year.
Cardinal sophomore Jon Harbridge (0-1) relieved starter Mike Tisdale in the third and took the loss, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing two runs, one of which was earned on four hits and a walk, striking out two.
Tisdale pitched on Friday, surrendering a run on three hits in two innings to go with a strikeout.
Skylar Meade retired all seven batters he faced in relief of Harbridge.
Catcher Ron Braun was 3 for 5 for the Cards, who outhit KSU 10-7. DH Logan Johnson added two hits for the Cards.
In game two, the Cards again went down early, this time on a solo home run by Chad Kinyon to lead off the second.
The Flashes extended the lead in the fourth with a three-spot on five consecutive hits.
A sac fly by Kinyon in the fifth made it 5-0 Kent.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, center fielder Daniel Burton, in his second collegiate at bat, singled, and scored on a double by Luis Pardo, putting the Cards on the board.
Danny Plasencia singled home Pardo to make it 5-2, but was thrown out at second on the play.
A solo home run by Woods made it 6-2 Kent in the sixth.
With one out in the eighth a solo home run by Mark Jurich, his fourth on the season, cut the lead to three runs but the Cards could get no closer.
Mike Lynn (1-1) started for the Cards and was forced to exit in the third. He took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits.
Chase Cruse followed and gave up two runs on six hits in 2.1 innings, fanning one.
Brian Halford walked two and struck out five over the final 3.2 hitless innings for U of L(3-5).
Justin Laraway (1-2) started for Kent, earning the win, while Chad Wagler earned his first save of the year.
Jurich added a double in three at bats and was the only Card with a multi-hit effort. His home run gives him 32 in his career, tying him with Rick Siriano for 10th all-time, and his 44th double placed him tied with Rob Newman for sixth all-time in Cardinal history.
The Cards will host Kent for two more games on Sunday, the first a seven inning game at Noon, followed by a nine inning game.
Admission is free to all fans at Cardinal Stadium.
