LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville Cardinal baseball team scored runs in every inning but the third in a 12-5 romp over Morehead State on Wednesday. After trailing 5-2, the Cards(5-6) scored ten unanswered runs for their second straight win.
Sophomore Nick Haley lead off the ballgame with a single to left, stole second, and was plated on Ron Braun's two-out single, putting U of L up 1-0 in the first.
In the bottom of the second Haley singled home third baseman Ryan McKinnon to extend the Cards lead to 2-0.
The Eagles respond with a two-run triple to left center off the bat of DH Robert Dittrich to knot the game at two in the top of the third.
A five hit third inning lead to three runs for Morehead and chased Cardinal starter Mike Tisdale, lifting the Eagles to a 5-2 lead.
Danny Plasencia's RBI single scored Chris Cates to cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth, and the Cards regained the lead with a four-run fifth.
The first two batters of the frame were retired in order before DH Logan Johnson was hit by a pitch. He was doubled home by McKinnon, who scored on Daniel Burton's single up the middle.
Burton moved to second on the throw home, and was plated by Cates single. Cates stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on the third single of the day by Haley to make it 7-5.
In the sixth, Mark Jurich walked and scored on a triple by Braun, who then scored on a groundout by first baseman Greg Taylor who was seeing his first action of the season.
Burton scored from second on consecutive wild pitches in the seventh. A wild pitch scored pinch hitter Luis Pardo, who had singled to lead off the eighth, and Taylor was plated on a balk to close the scoring.
Tisdale allowed five runs on five hits and three walks in 3.1 innings, fanning three.
Skylar Meade (1-0) picked up the first win of his collegiate career, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts.
Brian Halford earned his first save of the season, and second of his career, tossing the final four scoreless frames, surrendering two hits and striking out two.
Chad Parsons (1-1) was touched for seven runs, five of which were earned on nine hits and a walk in five frames, he struck out six in the loss.
Three relievers each tossed an inning for the Eagles(4-7).
Haley had three hits to go with three steals and two RBI. Burton was 2 for 2 with two walks, scoring twice. McKinnon and Cates also scored twice while Braun drove in two runs for the Cards.
The Cardinal defense turned four double plays in the ballgame.
Louisville will host Ball State on Friday and Saturday at Cardinal Stadium. First pitch Friday is at 3:00 p.m., admission at Cardinal Stadium is free at all Cardinal home games.
