The University of Louisville women's tennis team swept thru the Southeastern Louisiana from top to bottom for a 7-0 win at Bass Rudd on Friday evening.
The Cardinals won the doubles point with the No. 1 team of Leslie Stewart and Michele Spiess jumped up on SLU's Zdenka Puflerova and Yessica Rezelia 7-1. The pair from Louisville faltered in the ninth game before winning 8-2. Kelly Taylor and Natalie Laszkowski fell behind 4-5 before rallying to a 8-5 win at No. 2. Paige Eber and Christina Gogol handled Inge LeGrange and Vanessa Wong at No. 3 doubles with a 8-3 win.
The Cardinals swept through the singles easily with no matches going to three sets. Leslie Stewart, who is nursing an ankle injury, was able to sit out at No. 1 when Spiess stepped in for her and won 6-2, 6-1. Gogol moved up to No. 2 and beat Rizelia 6-1, 6-4. Taylor had little opposition from LeGrange, winning 6-0, 6-2. Freshmen Julia Hierl and Laszkowski both won with senior Paige Eber mopping up at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-0.
