Craft Named to All-Region Team

New York, N.Y. - University of Louisville freshman forward Jamie Craft has been named to the Great Lakes Region All-Freshman women's soccer team by Soccer Buzz Magazine. Craft, the top goal scorer and point leader among freshman in C-USA, had previously been named C-USA Freshman of the Year and selected to the C-USA All-Freshman team and Third Team All-Conference USA.

"This is a tremendous honor for Jamie," said U of L Head Coach Karen Ferguson.

"Earning awards at the conference level is an extraordinary achievement, but this is another step for her and the U of L soccer program to be noticed like this in a strong region," added Ferguson.

Craft is the third Cardinal women's soccer player, and first freshman to earn mention in the 51-team region. In 1995, Krista Dowell was 1st team All-Region and the following season Stephanie Contole earned third team recognition.

Craft scored a team-high eight goals in her initial collegiate campaign, adding four assists for a total of 20 points, also tops on the team. Of her 41 shots, 24 were on goal, as she netted two game winners-both in 1-0 wins for the Cards.

Craft, who attended Northern High School in Owings, Maryland, started all 18 matches for the Cards this season. She scored five goals in her first six games of the season.

Louisville was 7-9-2 on the 2003 season, its highest win total since 1997 and the fourth consecutive season the team has improved its record under the guidance of Ferguson.

U of L will join Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette and South Florida as members of the Big East beginning in the Fall of 2005.
