Lexington, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer fell 2-1 in double overtime to Kentucky on Tuesday evening at the UK Soccer Complex. Kentucky's Shteiwi slipped past the defense in the106th minute to score the game winning goal. The Cards fall to 3-3 on the season and the Wildcats improve to 4-0.
"It was a tough loss," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "Kentucky looked a lot more dangerous out there and I have to give them credit for hanging around to win. They outshot us and were more offensive minded tonight. I was proud of the way we played it was just unfortunate that we had to walk away with a loss. We were naive at times and hopefully we will learn from this loss."
Kentucky struck first in the 36th minute when Nick Aguilar headed the ball in off an assist from Jamal Shteiwi and Thomas Senecal. Five minutes later freshman Ryan Pomeroy tipped the ball in on the left side of the net with assists from Devin Matthews and Clay Talley.
The second half was scoreless, forcing the overtime period. The Cardinals were outshot 5-0 in the second period. The first overtime period ended scoreless with the Cats outshooting the Cards 2-0.
