Lexington, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer defeated Butler 2-1 in the first game of the UK Invitational on Friday evening. The Cardinals improve to 4-3 and Butler falls to 2-2-1 on the season.
"I was happy to see the guys rebound from a difficult loss at UK," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. We were mentally more focused tonight but it still took us a while to get on the board and score. We didn't have any gaps defensively and were able to contain only four shots. I that Matt Neely and Adrian Cann did a great job tonight solidifying out defense."
Senior forward Simon Bird headed the ball back across the goal with a pinpoint cross from freshman Trevor House in the 83rd minute. Less than a minute later freshman Ryan Pomeroy got a thru ball to Ian Quatrocchi to put the Cards up 2-0 with just under six minutes to play.
The Bulldog's Andrew Pancio got the ball to Jamie Gordon for a goal in the 89th minute but it was not enough. The Cards outshot Butler 9-4. Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski collected two saves for the game.
Louisville will take on Central Florida in the UK Invitational on Sunday at noon.
