Lexington, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated Central Florida 1-0 Sunday at the UK Soccer Stadium. The Cardinals won the UK Invitational title, going 2-0 on the weekend. Four Cardinals earned all-tournament honors, Brad Sokolowski, Adrian Cann, Matt Neely and Simon Bird.
"We played a very attack-minded Central Florida team that tied Kentucky on Friday," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "They are a very exciting team and will have a lot of success this season. The game could have gone either way today. We were luck that fortune was on our side. Both teams had a lot of chances and they had some hit the cross bar. We also missed some clear opportunities ourselves. But it was nice to see Ryan Edwards score his first goal.
"I thought Matt Neely, Adrian Cann, Trevor House and Bryan Wells did a great job in the back field for us. Andy Damier played his best game of the season and we really needed him because he had to do a marking job for us. He was very effective today."
Sophomore forward Ryan Edwards scored the game winner right before the half. Edwards was set up for the goal by Felipe Tolomelli and freshman Jonathon Williams.
Central Florida edged the Cards in shots 13-12. UCF keeper Ryan McIntosh finished the game with six saves while Cardinal keeper Sokolowski finished with three, all in the second half to hold off the Golden Knights.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on No. 4 Saint Louis at 8:00 p.m.
