
Men's Soccer Defeats No. 3 Saint Louis

St. Louis, Mo. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated No. 3 Saint Louis 2-0 on Saturday evening in Robert R. Hermann Stadium. The win marks the first time the Cardinal have defeated a Top Five team. The Cards improve to 2-0 in Conference USA play and 6-3 overall.
Senior Simon Bird scored with a 35-yard blast in the 60th minute of play to put the Cards up 1-0. Bird had five shots in the first half and connected on his sixth. Freshman standout Jonathon Williams dribbled the ball in and hit the far corner of the net for the score in the 86th minute of play, holding off any Billiken attack in the final minutes.
Louisville outshot Saint Louis 16-10. Billiken keeper Martin Hutton collected an impressive seven saves for the game. Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski had two saves and two team saves.
The Cards will travel to Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 1 to take on the 49ers at 7:30 p.m.
