Charlotte, N.C. - The University of Louisville's men soccer fell to Charlotte 2-1 on Wednesday night at Transamerica Field. The Cardinals fall to 6-4 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
"We started the game slow and Charlotte took advantage of it and scored early," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We managed to rally back in the first half and tie the game with a goal from Simon Bird. We played well the first 15 minutes of the second half but then the game got ugly. Charlotte stuck to the game plan and their goalkeeper came up big tonight."
The 49ers got on the board early when Mira Mupier scored in the first minute of play to put Charlotte up 1-0. Senior Simon Bird scored off a free kick from Matt Rose to knot the game in the 33rd minute of play.
In the second half, Charlotte's Mupier connected again in the 54th minute off a free kick deflection from Floyd Franks to score the game-winner. Charlotte held a 12-9 shot advantage over the Cards. Sophomore keeper Brad Sokolowski collected five saves and Charlotte keeper Lucas Mackanos collected five saves as well.
The Cards will travel to Chicago to take on DePaul on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2:00 p.m.
