FORT WORTH, TX - The TCU Horned Frogs evened the weekend series with the University of Louisville with a 30-2 pounding on Friday night. The two teams will meet on Saturday for the deciding game of the series at 1:00 p.m. CT.
Louisville designated hitter Ron Braun crushed the first pitch of the second inning over the fence in left center to give the Cards(32-20, 14-14) a 1-0 advantage, and then the Frogs took over.
TCU (34-20, 21-8) responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single by Will Lewis to take a 2-1 lead, and made it 3-1 on a sacrifice fly to center by Mike Settle in the third.
The Frogs then exploded for seven runs in the fourth and 10-run fifth and sixth innings, setting numerous school and conference records in dishing out the worst loss in Cardinal baseball history.
The previous worst was a 33-6 loss to Virginia Tech on April 24, 1993.
Every TCU starter had at least two hits, an RBI and scored a run in the 35 hit attack.
Terry Trofholz, Jake Duncan and Lewis each had five hits for the Frogs.
Cardinal starter Scott Barber (7-4) took the loss, tossing three plus innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out three.
Skylar Meade entered and went 1.2 frames, surrendering nine runs - eight earned, on 10 hits to go with two strikeouts. Steve Ayers was touched for eight runs on eight hits and two walks, fanning the only two men he retired.
Griffin Bailey finished up with 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out two.
Kyle Shoemaker (7-2) earned the win for the Frogs, allowing one run on just two hits and two walks, striking out six in six innings.
Braun was the only Cardinal with two hits in the game.
TCU can share the league title with a win and a Southern Miss loss on Saturday, while the Cards can finish either sixth or seventh in C-USA.
