Cardinal Nine Falls to Volunteers

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Louisville Cardinals 18-2 in baseball action Tuesday.
The teams were scoreless until the fourth when the Vols (10-1) pushed across six runs on four hits and two Cardinal errors.
Tennessee pushed across another run in the fifth and three more in the seventh before an eight run explosion in the eughth sealed the blowout.
Louisville (7-2), on the road for the first time this season, pushed across two meaningless runs in the ninth.
Tennessee outhit the Cards 19-6 on the day.
Louisville starter Zach Jackson (0-1) allowed seven runs, four of which were earned on nine hits and three walks in six innings in the loss. He struck out four.
Freshman Brian Halford was touched for three runs on four hits and a walk in a third of an inning, forcing Clif Novak to enter with the bases loaded. Novak induced an inning-ending double play in the seventh, but also worked the eighth, surrendering eight runs on six hits and three walks in 1.2 frames, striking out two.
Vols starter Luke Hochevar (3-0) threw seven scoreless allowing four hits and two walks to go with six K's for the win.
Third baseman Nick Crowe drove in four runs on two hits, and Michael Rivera was 5 for 5 to lead the Vols.
Catcher Luis Pardo was 2 for 4 with an RBI and nabbed a runner attempting to steal for the Cards.
The same two teams meet Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. for the last of the two-game set.
