
Women's Soccer Signs Seven

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville women's soccer team has signed seven players to letter of intent. Two junior college athletes and five high school seniors will be eligible to join the team in the fall of 2003.
The Cards improved its record for the fourth consecutive season, and will be guided by Head Coach Karen Ferguson, who enters her third campaign with the Cardinals.
"I'm extremely excited about the talented group of young women that we have committed to attend the University of Louisville," said Ferguson.
"This recruiting class will immediately address our goal scoring needs, as well as add depth to our very solid core of returning players," added Ferguson.
Jamie Craft
5'2" F FR Owings, Maryland/Northern HS
Team Captain, All-State, four-time All-Conference, All-County and two-time MVP at Northern High School...scored SMAC record 108 goals and 53 assists in four season while playing forward, and midfield....Two-year member of Maryland ODP squad as well as Bethesda Dragons Club
Why I chose U of L: "After talking with the coaches, I realized that I would feel really at ease working with them; they seemed to be easy to talk with and very friendly. I look forward to improving my "game," and I could tell that their individual coaching styles would be the right combination needed to motivate me to reach my full potential as a soccer player. I have never felt this comfortable around coaches in the past as I do with them. I was pleased with the players on the team because they bond so well, and I felt like I could fit in. I was also impressed with the campus and its educational programs. I could really see myself going to UofL and feeling like it was home to me."
Ferguson on Craft:"Jamie has unbelievable potential and I think she will develop into a fantastic forward over the course of her career at U of L. She is fast, explosive, tenacious and will create problems for our opponents. I'm excited to watch Jamie flourish at the collegiate level."
Kim DeBolt
5'5" MF/D SO Boise, Idaho/Walla Walla CCLettered in both soccer and track at Boise High School, leading her high school team to a state title her senior year.....Co-captain of the Boise Capitals club team that won the state title in 2001....Idaho ODP 1996-2003, Regional Team 2000....Co-Captain of the Walla Walla Warriors & All-Conference.
Why I chose U of L: "The people were nice and the facilities were beautiful."
Ferguson on DeBolt:"Kim has great junior college experience at the holding midfield role. She is very strong in the air, serves extremely well over distance and is dangerous on set pieces"
5'6" MF/D FR Milford, Ohio/ Milford HSTwo-time MVP and All-Conference selection as well as captain of the Eagles, earning three letters....Played for Cincinnati Classics for seven years and Hammer F.C. for four more seasons of club.
Why I chose U of L: "I felt that it was a place where I could not only grow as a soccer player, but as an individual as well."
Ferguson on Engel: "Heather will add depth for us in both the center of the midfield or at the back. She is physically strong, has good vision and keeps the game simple. I look forward to watching Heather take her game to new heights."
Kim Jents
5'6" F JR Anaheim, California/Long Beach CCNamed NSCAA National Player of the Year and Two-Time All-American while at Long Beach CC....Lead team to back-to-back state and national championships at LBCC....Four-year letterwinner in soccer and softball in High School....League MVP, First-Team All-City and Team Captain in soccer.
Why I chose U of L: "I felt right at home at U of L. Everything fell into place on my visit. All the players were fun, the coaches were awesome and the facilities were outstanding. The U of L soccer team has a lot of great things happening in its future and I'm very excited to be a part of that. Go Cards!"
Ferguson on Jents: "Kim is a prolific goal scorer!! She has scored 67 goals at Long Beach and she has an uncanny ability to finish. Kim's impact will be felt immediately and with her presence we will be able to take much of the pressure off of our team defensively. I'm excited to watch Kim score goals and it is a much needed dimension for our program."
Liz Kinny
5'9" F FR Louisville, Kentucky/Manual HSAll-State, All-District, All-Region, Offensive MVP and Team Captain under Brian Gregory, while leading the team in goals and assists....Seven year member of Javanon Club Team, winning four state titles....Four year member of the Kentucky ODP Team.
Why I chose U of L: "I chose the University of Louisville because I felt it was the best fit for me both academically and athletically. The university's support of the student athletes on and off the field is outstanding. I look forward to contributing to a growing program with great players and coaches."
Ferguson on Kinny: "I am very excited to add a Louisville native to our program. Every year we try to recruit the best player in the city, and for the second year in a row I feel as though we have attracted the top players in Hollie Minogue and now Liz Kinny. Liz will add depth at the forward position. She is physically strong, has a powerful shot and will help to create a much needed attacking presence for our team."
Lindsay Scheer
5'8" F FR Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills HSAn All-City selection while earning four letters in soccer for the Eagles....Captained the team as a senior....Scored 29 goals and 22 assists in high school, including 22 goals as a junior and senior....Has played for the Cincinnati Hammers since she was eight years old....owns a 3.97 GPA.
Why I chose U of L: "I really liked my future teammates, they were extremely welcoming and made me fell like part of the team before I was. I was impressed with the coaching staff and heard great things about the science department here."
Ferguson on Scheer: "Lindsay is a very focused, goal-oriented student-athlete and I know I will enjoy working with her. She loves to learn, to challenge herself and compete. Lindsay is a forward with good pace and she likes to take players on. Lindsay will provide us with a much needed attacking mentality."
Amy Seng
5'10" D FR Centennial, Colorado/Cherry Creek HSHelped team to 5A Colorado State HS championship in 2001...Was second team All-League and Team Co-MVP in 2002....Will captain her team this spring....Lettered two years in basketball....Colorado ODP team member for three years...Team Captain of Colorado Storm club team for seven years, winning 2001 state title.
Why I chose U of L: "I really liked the environment the school provided for the student-athletes. On my visit, I felt like the team was more of a family than simply a team. I knew this was a place where I could be successful."
Ferguson on Seng: "Amy is a wonderful addition to our program and she will see time at either a central or wide back position. She is a good organizer, a vocal leader and has very good vision. I'm thrilled to add Amy to our 2003 recruiting class and I know she will have an immediate impact on our program."
