Birmingham, Ala. -
The University of Louisville's men soccer team tied No. 23 UAB 0-0 on Saturday evening in West Campus Field. The scoreless ties marks the first time in school history the Cardinals have not fallen to the Blazers in Birmingham. The Cards now stand at 9-5-1 on the season and 4-2-1 in league action. The tie moves the Cardinals into a tie with Marquette for first place in the league race with No. 5 Saint Louis falling 4-3 to No. 21 Cincinnati today in league play.
"We had a tremendous defensive effort tonight," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "Adrian Cann, Matt Neely and Ryan Meyer were very solid in the back for us. Our midfielders played their tails off and it was a great all-around team effort. The team was well prepared and it rounds off a very productive week for us."
The Blazers outshot the Cards 21-6 but had just five shots on goal. Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski collected five saves on the evening while Blazer keeper Jeremy Drake had two. The Cardinals had the best shot of the evening when freshman Ryan Pomeroy's shot in the second half just hit the cross bar.
The Cardinal will host Marquette on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
