Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville's men soccer shutout Marquette 1-0 on Wednesday evening in Cardinal Park. The victory gives the Cardinals sole possession of first place in the Conference USA standings with a 5-2-1 record and an overall record of 10-5-1.
"Both teams were very attack-minded tonight," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "Marquette is a very good team and they showed us tonight why they are at the top of the conference.
"I thought our defense played very well tonight and Matt Neely really stepped tonight leading the backfield without senior defender Adrian Cann. Brad Sokolowski played very well tonight and made some very mature saves."
Freshman Marco Terminisi gathered a Marquette clearout and crossed it to junior Ian Quatocchi in front of the goal line for the game-winner in the 78th minute of play. Marquette held an 18-16 edge in shots, including a 10-5 shot advantage in the second half. Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski collected seven saves while Marquette keeper Adam Ubert had five.
The Cardinals will wrap up conference play on Sunday, Oct. 26 as they host South Florida at 2:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
