
Fernandez Named to All-Star Team

WARWICK, R.I. - Louisville pitcher Carlos Fernandez has been selected to play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League all-star game at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday in Mansfield, Connecticut.
Fernandez, a junior from Miami Pace High School is 2-1 with a team-leading 1.02 ERA, three saves and 11 appearances in the wood bat league for college players. He has fanned 27 batters and allowed just nine hits and four walks in 17.1 innings. Opponents are hitting just .150 against Fernandez and he has allowed just one extra-base hit.
Fernandez, a member of the Danbury Westerners, is one of eight members of his team to play in the mid-season classic.

The Cardinals have eight players from the 2002 team currently on active rosters. In addition to Fernandez, pitcher Scott Barber and infielder J.T. LaFountain are also playing for the Westerners.
Barber, who will be a senior, is 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA in five starts, striking out 29 in 27.0 innings of work. LaFountain is batting .241 with a team-high 20 walks, and is 10-15 on stolen bases.
Sophomore-to-be Zach Jackson is also playing in the NECBL, posting a 3.79 ERA in six starts for the Manchester Silkworms.
Outfielder Dave Williams Jr. is in the Central Illinois Collegiate League, hitting .203 for the Springfield Rifles. He has a team-high eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
Curt Stewart, a freshman last sesaon for the Cards, is in the Clark Griffith Baseball League playing for the Vienna Mustangs. He is batting .250 with 16 RBI in 19 games.
Grant Williams, a senior last season, signed a free-agent contract with the Cook County Cheetahs in the Frontier League. He is 2-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 13 outings of relief.
Adam Haley, a junior who was taken in the 10th round of the MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks is with the Missoula Osprey in the Pioneer League, has yet to play due to injury.
Head Coach Lelo Prado and outfielder Mark Jurich are both with the USA National team in The Netherlands.
The Cardinals set a school record with 39 wins last season, advancing to an NCAA Regional for the first time in school history.
