
Cardinal Nine Overwhelmed by Green Wave

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Tulane Green Wave trounced the Louisville Cardinals 14-6 to win the opener of a three-game weekend series Friday night at Turchin Stadium.
A three-run home run by right fielder Gerald Clark vaulted the Green Wave to a 3-0 lead in the first. RBI singles by Aaron Feldman and Michael Aubrey in the second made it 5-0 Tulane(28-20, 12-10).
Mark Jurich launched his 14th home run of the season to right after a Dave Williams Jr. single cutting the lead to 5-2 in the third.
The Green Wave busted the game wide open in the fourth with a six-run inning. Feldman doubled home a run, and Aubrey plated two with a double of his own. Left fielder Brian Stelmak later lifted a three-run home run to left-center for his fifth home run of the year and an 8-2 Tulane lead.
The Green Wave added single runs in the fifth on a sac fly by Feldman, the seventh on a sac fly by pinch hitter Brooks Shankle and in the eight on an RBI single by shortstop Tommy Manzella for a 14-2 advantage.
Louisville(29-13, 14-8) closed out the scoring in the ninth on a sac fly by Jurich and a titanic three-run blast over the scoreboard in left by first baseman Morgan Bojorquez, giving him 10 clouts on the season.
Nick Bourgeois (8-2) got the win, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk in seven innings. He struck out four. Ricky Fairchild gave up a hit and struck out three in a scoreless inning of work.
Third baseman Anthony Giarratano made his first collegiate appearance, giving up four runs on two hits, striking out one in the ninth.
Cardinal starter Scott Barber sputtered through 3.1 innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out three.
Clif Novak replaced him for four frames, allowing six runs on 10 hits and a walk, while striking out one. Willie McKenzie entered in the eighth and struck out the only two batters he faced.
Jurich and Bojorquez were exclusively responsible for the Cardinal offense, each driving in three. Tulane outhit the Cards 18-10, the most hits allowed by Cardinal pitching this season.
Louisville and Tulane will meet for game two of the series on Saturday at 3:00p.m. ET.
