
Cardinal Nine Completes Weekend Sweep

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Louisville Cardinal baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Charlotte with a 13-4 drubbing of the 49ers Sunday at Cardinal Stadium.
Louisville (25-10, 13-5) has won six straight and holds a share of first place in Conference USA with Houston.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a five spot in the second. Left fielder Josh Bolen walked to lead off and stole second. Carlos De la Osa singled, moving Bolen to third.
De la Osa was picked off, and third baseman Mike Budak walked, putting runners at the corners. Catcher Ken Tirpack singled home Bolen, and he and Budak were plated on a two run triple down the left field line by Dave Williams Jr. for a 3-0 lead.
Adam Haley scored Williams on a fielder's choice as the speedy centerfielder slid under the tag of Charlotte catcher Alex Derhak, and right fielder Mark Jurich tripled to the gap in left center to score Haley.
Charlotte (17-22, 7-11) answered with two in the third on a two run home run by George Sandel, to trim the lead to 5-2.
De la Osa doubled down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the third and scored on a single by Budak.
Tirpack then doubled home Budak and moved to third on a throwing error. Second baseman J.T. LaFountain lifted a fly ball to left that scored Tirpack on a sacrifice fly for an 8-2 advantage.
Morgan Bojorquez smoked a 1-0 pitch deep and over the fence in straightaway center for his eighth home run of the year and a 9-2 Cardinal lead in the fourth.
In the fifth inning Haley lined a pitch over the right field wall for his third home run of the season and an 11-2 lead.
La Fountain then walked before Jurich pasted his 10th home run of the year high into the bleachers in right center, putting the Cards up 13-2.
Charlotte scored its final two runs on a sac fly by Derhak in the sixth and an RBI double by left fielder Joey Bradshaw in the seventh.
Cardinal starter Zach Jackson (4-1) picked up the win, tossing six innings of three-run, three hit ball. He walked two and struckout one.
Willie McKenzie allowed a run on four hits and a walk in 1.2 frames, striking out one, and Josh Ring was perfect through the final inning and a third, striking out one.
Forty-niner starter Matt Savage was ripped for seven runs on seven hits and three walks to go with one strikeout. Adam Williard was touched for two runs, one of which was earned on two hits in an inning of work.
Justin Brown surrendered four runs, three of which were earned on four hits and two walks, he struck out three in five innings.
Jurich drove in three runs on a double and a triple. Haley also drove in three, tying a career high.
Tirpack and Williams Jr. each drove in a pair, while 10 different Cards had a base hit. Ryan McKinnon entered in the sixth and hit his first career double.
Louisville will next host Morehead State on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium, and will meet the University of Kentucky Wednesday at Slugger Field in downtown Louisville at 6:00 p.m.
