
Cardinal Women's Soccer Signs Nine

LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team has announced the signing of nine high school students to letters of intent to play for the Cardinals.
"We are thrilled to have nine players of such high quality join the Cardinal soccer program. Each one will raise the level of competition for our whole team and keep this program moving in a positive direction," said Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"Not only have we added a great deal of talent on the field but we've also added nine outstanding individuals into our Cardinal family. We couldn't be more excited to have them at the University of Louisville," added Ferguson.
Sarah Core
5'8" - MF/D
Richardson, Texas/Berkner HS
Club: Solar
Core was the 2001 Berkner HS Defensive Player of the Year and earned all-district honors in 2002 and 2001. A four-year letter winner who was team captain.
Why Core chose U of L: "As a girl from Texas who has lived in the same house all of my life, I was looking for a little adventure and the University of Louisville, although a little far from home, fourteen hours to be exact, seems to be a great fit. Everyone I have talked to has made me feel right at home and the school offers so many opportunities in so many fields, the possibilities are endless, not to mention the great soccer facilities and the town itself. I look forward to being able to contribute and be a part of the program."
Ashley Garcia
5'4" - MF
West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East HS
Club: Classic/Hammer
Garcia lettered all four years and earned all-conference honors all four seasons. Was named 1998 Offensive player of the year and team MVP for 2001. Holds the school record for most assists in a career. Has been part of the Ohio ODP for the past six years.
Why Garcia chose U of L: "My decision to attend the University of Louisville was an easy one to make. Everything clicked during my visit to the U of L. I am excited to have an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of basically a brand new program with quality coaches and players. Go Cards!"
Melissa Grieshaber
5'4" - MF/F
Versailles, Kentucky/Woodford County HS HS
Club: LFC Premier
Grieshaber lead her team in scoring as a senior with 20 goals and 18 assists on her way to being named 2nd team All-State and Academic All-State. Tallied 69 goals and 56 assists in her four year career. Also lettered all four years in track and holds the school record in the 800 meters.
Nikki Ilg
5'9" - D
St. Louis, MO/St. John's HS
Club:Busch Soccer
A member of the Missouri State Team 1996-2000, and named to the All-Conference and All-Metro St. Louis teams. Was a four-year letter winner in Soccer, Basketball and Softball and class valedictorian. Played for the Region II Club runner-up in 2000 and 2001 and attended Adidas ESP Camp in 2001.
Why Ilg chose U of L: "I really enjoyed everything about my visit. All the players were great and a lot of fun to be around. I especially liked how well they all got along. I felt like I fit right in. Also, I loved the campus and athletic facilities... and the coaches seem great!"
Andrea Marak
5'6" - MF
Irving, Texas/Coppell HS
Club: D'feeters
Tallied 18 goals and eight assists last season as team captain. Named 2001 5A All District Team Utility Player of the Year, 2001 Coppell H.S. Varsity MVP, 2000 4A All District Team Offensive Player of the Year, and 1999 4A All District Team Newcomer of the Year. Club team The D'feeters are four time North Texas State Champion and two time Southern Regional champion. A three year member of her state ODP team.
Why Marak chose U of L: "I selected U of L because it has an excellent Business Management program. I also know I will really enjoy being part of the Cardinal soccer team. Both programs are a good fit for a Texas girl like me-bluegrass Marak!!"
Hollie Minogue
5'1" - MF
Louisville, KY/Assumption
Club: Javanon
Attended Assumption High School and finished career with 36 goals and 22 assists. Three-time team MVP and All-State selection. Also earned All-Region and All-District as team captain for 2001 season. A four-time Academic All-State selection, Hollie has a 3.9 gpa. Has been team captain of her Javanon club team for the past six years, winning four state titles in the last seven tries.
Why Minogue chose U of L: "U of L is the perfect fit for me to continue my passion for playing soccer and it fit for me academically as well. The facilities are beautiful and I loved being with the team on my visit. It will also be close to home and easier for my parents to come to all my games. "
Megan Rasmussen
5'9" - F
Westlake, Ohio/Magnificat HS
Club: Ohio Premier
A four-year starter who was co-captain and team MVP while being named 1st team All Greater Cleveland and 3rd team All Ohio. Notched 32 goals and 24 assists in her career. Also made the Cleveland Plain Dealer All Star team.
Why Rasmussen chose U of L: "I chose the University of Louisville because of their strong nursing program and their commitment to women's athletics. I look forward to playing with the team and for the coaches next year."
Lyndsay Seibert
5'6" - GK Florence, KY/St. Henry HS
Club:Classic/Hammer Soccer
Team captain and memeber of the 2001 Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference All-Star Team. Named to the 2001 Northern Kentucky Girls High School Soccer Coaches Association (NKGHSSCA) First Team All region and 2001 Cincinnati Enquirer All-regional All-Star Team Goalkeeper.
Why Seibert chose U of L: "My experience visiting U of L's campus was great! The staff and team is full of outgoing, talented, and determined individuals who really fit my personality. U of L's strong academic support system, top-notch facilities, and positive atmosphere will provide me with endless opportunities to excel both on and off the field. Heather Shreffler
5'7" - D
Janesville, WI/Craig HS
Club: Madison 56'ers
Earned four letters in high school, the first three at Concordia Lutheran in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Was a member of the 2000 Indiana ODP State team. Played for 3 time Indiana Club State Champion Fort Wayne Citidel.
Why Shreffler chose U of L: "During my official visit I could really see myself spending four years at U of L. I loved the team. All the players were very warm towards me. Also I knew that academically I could get a good education in sports management. All in all I felt really good at U of L."
