LOUISVILLE, KY- Morgan Bojorquez and Curt Stewart each drove in three runs in Louisville's 11-2 trouncing of Cleveland State Tuesday at Cardinal Stadium.
The Cards (8-3) struck early with three in the first on an RBI single by Bojorquez and a two-run single by Stewart.
The Vikings (0-10) came back for a run in the top of the second, but Louisville plated three more in the bottom half, to make it 6-1 Cards.
Catcher Fernando Isa singled home a run and Bojorquez doubled home two more in the inning.
CSU scored another run in the fourth on a double play ground ball, before U of L added to the lead in the bottom of the frame.
Bojorquez walked with one out in the fourth, and was tripled home by third baseman Mike Budak. Budak scored on a single by Carlos De la Osa, giving the Cards a 8-2 cushion.
A solo home run by shortstop J.T. LaFountain in the seventh, his first made it 9-2, and the final margin was set with two in the eighth.
Bojorquez lead off with his second double of the game, Budak tripled for the second time on the afternoon to score Bojorquez, and Budak was plated on a double by Stewart.
Freshman Zach Jackson (1-0) picked up the win in his first college start, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out three in five innings.
Mike Tisdale tossed a perfect sixth, fanning one and Carlos Fernandez breezed through the seventh and eight, retiring the side in order twice, throwing 14 of his 18 pitches for strikes.
Josh Ring gave up a hit in the ninth and hit a batter to wrap it up. Cardinal pitchers out the Vikings down in order in six of the nine innings, and at one point, retired 14 straight. Louisville faced just five over the minimum.
CSU starter Matt Kaltenbach (0-1) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits and four walks in four innings, he struck out two.
Reliever Luke Smrdel tossed the final four frames, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks to go with one strikeout.
Louisville got three hits apiece from Bojorquez and Stewart, while Isa, LaFountain and Budak had two each.
Budak's two triples ties the school and Conference USA record, matched earlier this season by Mark Jurich.
LaFountain, batting leadoff for the first time in his collegiate career, was 2 for 4 with a home run and two walks, while scoring three times.
The same two teams will meet Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium, before U of L opens Conference USA play, hosting Memphis for a three-game series starting Friday.
Admission to all games at Cardinal Stadium is free.
