
Women's Soccer Team Opens 2001 Slate on Friday

LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team is poised to open its 17th season of varsity competition Friday, as they travel to Indianapolis to face IUPUI at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The 18 game schedule features games against national runner-up and second ranked UCLA on September 7 in Champaign, Ill., at 16th ranked Florida State on September 30 and at home against 24th ranked Marquette October 21.
Last Saturday the Cards blanked Georgetown College 8-0 in an exhibition and followed with another 8-0 win in the alumnae match on Sunday.
Senior midfielder/forward Amber Jolley returns as the team's leading scorer with six goals and two assists last season. Jolley had three goals and three assists against Georgetown and added an assist in the alumnae match.
Jolley is one of six returning letterwinners on a squad that features 14 newcomers, including 12 freshmen.
Freshman forward Lisa Martin notched four goals over the weekend, while fellow freshman Leigh Carroll added three goals and two assists.
Junior Melissa Wark, NJCAA All-American who transferred in from national JUCO runner-up Monroe Community College, tallied four goals and an assist in the two matches last weekend.
Freshman Meredith Miller earned the shutouts over the weekend, playing all 180 minutes in net, and will begin the season as the team's starting goalkeeper.
Louisville is 0-2-0 against IUPUI, losing 2-0 during the 1999 season, and 2-1 last season in Louisville on October 18th. In that game, Jolley scored her sixth goal of the season.
The Cardinals home opener is Sunday, September 9 against Miami at 1:00 p.m. ET at Cardinal Park.
