Junior: Therese qualified for the 2010 NCAAs in the 100- and 200-breast and was a part of the relays as well. She was named All-BIG EAST in four events: the 200- and 400-medley relays as well as the 100- and 200-breast events. Swimming the breast stroke leg of the relays, she recorded a 23.69 split in the 200- and a 1:39.94 team final for second place. In the 400-medley relay, her split of 1:00.64 helped her team to a 3:37.35 finishing time and another second place finish. In the 100-breast, she finished second with a time of 1:00.63, which was the national cut in 2009. In her last event, the 200-breast, she finished in 2:12.46 for third place. All of Therese's individual and relay times during the championship meet met the national B-cut. During the dual season, Therese was a two-time BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week.
Sophomore: Advancing to the NCAAs as a sophomore, Therese was second in the water in the 200-medley relay (1:40.38) and competed in the 100-breast (1:01.41). In the Swedish National Championships in 2009, she finished second in the 200-meter breast (1:10 LCM) and third in the 100-breast (2.31 LCM). Therese was named All-BIG EAST and was a two-time BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week. She helped set four school records in 2008-09. At the Last Chance Meet, she set a school record in the 100-breast (1:00.79) and the 200-breast (2:11.06). At the BIG EAST Championship, she was the conference runnerup in the 100-breast (1:01.24) and second in the 200-breast (2:13.57). She was a member of the school record 200-medley relay team , swimming second with a split 27.75 as the Cardinals went 1:39.64. In the 400-medley, she helped set a school record with a split of 1:01.20 as the Cardinals posted a time of 3:39.28.
Freshman: Therese joined the Cards midseason, from Motala, Sweden, where she was a 2004 Swedish Junior National champion in the 200-breast. She also finished 3rd in the 2007 Swedish Senior Nationals in the 200-breast. During her first season as a Cardinal she laid siege to the record books, placing 3rd at the BIG EAST Championships in the 100-breast with a 1:02.50 and as a key member of the 400-Medley relay team. Therese contributed other vital points in the 200-IM, placing 7th , and the 200-breast with a 5th place finish. Her 100-breast earned First-Team, All-Conference Honors.
Prep: Her career bests prior to joining the Cards were 1:10.40 (SCM) in the 100-breast, 2:32.33 (SCM) in the 200-breast and 2:04.73 (SCM) in the 200-free.She swam club for LASS Linkoping for coaches Michael Holmertz and Marcus Wernstrom.
Personal: She is the daughter of Staffan and Ingela Bergstrom. She was born April 11, 1987. She plans on majoring in psychology.
