Junior: Mary Mittell contributed to the depth to the Cardinal sprint events in her junior year. Mittel made the A-final in every individual event at the BIG EAST Championships. Mittel's highest individual place was third in the 100-butterfly, going 54.61 where she was named an All BIG EAST performer. She also took sixth in the 50-freestyle in 23.37, and eighth in the 100-backstroke in 55.44. She swam the third leg of the crowned champion 200-freestyle relay in a split of 22.92 earning another All BIG EAST performer recognition.

Sophomore: Mary contributed to the Cardinal sprinting throughout the season. At the BIG EAST Championship, Mary competed in the 50-free, 100-back, and 100-fly. She made the consolation final in the 50-free where she finished in fourteenth in 23.82. On day three of the championships, Mary did the ever so popular 100-fly and 100-back double. In the 100-fly she made the A-final with three other teammates and finished eighth in 55.85. In her second race of the evening, Mary touched in 56.46, which was good enough for fifteenth in the 100-back. In dual meet action, Mary was the lead off leg of the winning 200-medley relay against in state rival. She consistently had one of the top two backstroke splits in the medley relay. She also recorded another victory against UK in the 100-back in a time of 56.76.

Freshman: Mary competed in the 50-free, 100-fly, and 100-back at the BIG EAST Championships. In her best performance at the event, she placed fourth in the 100-back and made the national B-cut with a time of 54.43. She also had a strong showing in the 100-fly with a time of 55.05, good for fifth. In the 50-free, she finished in eighth at 23.56.

Prep: Mary joins the Cardinals from the Lakeside Seahawks in Louisville where she swam for Coach Mike DeBoor. Mary's best finishes were first in the100-fly/back/free, and 50-free in the 2010 KY SC State Championships. She also earned captain and MVP honors for her club.

Personal: Daughter of Joseph and Leslie Mittel. She has 7 siblings and is the third Mittel to swim for the Cardinals, following brothers Joseph and Gavin into the Cardinal ranks. Born February 7, 1992. Major is biology.
