Junior: As a junior Krissie Brandenburg qualified for her first NCAA championships when she helped set the BIG EAST meet record in the 400-freestyle relay in a time of 3:16.89, where she swam second with the fastest split for the Cardinals in with a 48.93, the only sub 49.00. Brandenburg competed at NCAA in four relays, the 200-, 400-, and 800-freestyle relays that placed 19th , 18th, and 23rd. She also swam the 200-medley relay for 25th swimming the backstroke leg. At BIG EAST, Brandenburg placed 3rd in all of her individual events including the 50-freestyle in 23.03, the 100-freestyle in 49.65, and the 100-backstroke in 53.95 where she was the fastest Cardinal. Brandenburg earned All- BIG EAST performer recognition in all three individual events. Brandenburg swam the backstroke leg of the 2nd place finishing 400-medley relay where she swam a 53.87. At the Purdue Invite, Brandenburg made head way to set her up for an exciting season where she finished 1st in the 100-backstroke in 54.01. Brandenburg has been a key to the highly regarded Cardinal relays of this year.
Sophomore: At the BIG EAST Championships Krissie competed in the 100-back, 50- and 100 free. She was one of four Cardinals to make the A-Final in the 50 free and finished sixth in 23.34. In the 100-back she swam her way to a fourth place finish. Krissie won the consolation final in the 100-free in a time of 50.74. She was also the lead off leg on two relays for the Cardinals. On the BIG EAST Champion 200-Medley relay she split a 25.29. She also led off the 400-Free relay, which finished runner-up, in 50.99. She was named a three-time All BIG EAST performer.
Freshman: Krissie was very active as a freshman during the BIG EAST Championships, swimming in the 200- and 400-medley relays, the 400-free relay, the 50-free, and the 50- and 100-back. She swam the freestyle leg for the school-record-setting 200- and 400-medley relay teams. In the 200-medley, she had the fastest split time of the field at 25.07 and helped lead the team to a first-place finish (1:38.43). She had the second-fastest split in the 400-medley (54.55), guiding the team to a second-place finish with a final mark of 3:19.91. Both medley teams made the national B-cut. Krissie swam the third leg for the 400-free relay and once again had the fastest split time (50.32), leading the team to a second-place finish with a final B-cut time of 3:37.29. She set another school record in the 50-back with a time of 25.07. Krissie was also impressive in the 100-back with a third-place time of 53.97, good for another national B-cut. In the 50-free, Krissie tied for sixth place with a time of 23.19. She finished the year as a four-time All-BIG EAST performer.
Prep: Kristina joined the Cardinals from Edgewood, Kentucky. During her senior season for the Beechwood High School Tigers under coach Amanda Johnson, Kristina swam a personal best 54.29 in the 100-breast at the KY State meet. She also was coached by Jason Roberts for the Northern Kentucky Clippers. In 2010, she swam a personal best for the Clippers in the 200-back with a time of 2:00.18 at the NCSA Junior Nationals. Kristina earned All-Regional, Regional Swimmer of the Year, First Team All-State, KY State Meet MVP, Captain, and eight time All-American honors during her prep career.
Personal: She is the daughter of Mike Brandenburg and Gennie Bridwell. Born May 7, 1992. Major is undecided.
