Freshman: In his first season with the Cardinals, Clayton specialized in freestyle events and helped provide depth in relay races. Clayton recorded his season-best time of 20.80 in the 50 free at the Louisville Invitational. He competed in the B-Final of the 50 free finishing with a time of 20.91 and won the C-Final in the 100 free with a time of 46.68 at the Louisville Invite.

Prep: Clayton joins the Cardinals from Prospect, Kentucky where he attended North Oldham High School and swam for Cardinal Aquatics under Amy Albiero. At Cardinal Aquatics, Clayton is a two-time state champion as well as the state record holder in the 200 medley relay. Under Coach Randy Scherer at North Oldham, Clayton holds five school records and is the highest individual scorer in school history in the 50 free.
