Junior: Sean shouldered the bulk of the men’s diving for the Cardinals as a junior. During the dual meet season, he won the 1-meter board against Kentucky with a score of 311.70 and was second in the 3-meter board with a 333.0 In the meet against Auburn and Tennessee, he was fourth in the 1-meter (279.65) and sixth in the 3-meter (274.65). In the Michigan Quad with Texas, and IU, he was sixth in the 3-meter with a 311.95 and was seventh in the 1-meter with a 278.35. At ACCs, he was 16th in the platform with a 505.75. At NCAA Zones, he was 11th in the 1-meter (317.45) and 15th in the 3-meter board with 621.50 and 15th in the platform with a score of 505.75.
Sophomore: Sean helped out the diving corps this season with some outstanding performances. He won the one-meter event against Notre Dame with a total of 308.17, which was his top low board score. He managed second on three-meter with his season-best performance of 342.45 points. He swept both boards against Cincinnati with a 267.35 on one and a 326.75 on three. Sean was named to the All-Conference squad after placing third on tower, with a score of 313.50. He finished fifth on both of the springboards at AAC’s, scoring 296.50 on one and 317.75 on three. Piner also qualified for the NCAA Zone meet.
Freshman: In Piner's freshman year, he became the first of the Cardinal men to win platform at the BIG EAST Championships. Piner was crowned champion of the new event on the last day of the meet with a final score of 302.55 qualifying for Diving Zones and also naming him All- BIG EAST performer on platform. He also competed in the A- Final of the 3-meter springboard for 6th place with a total score of 311.90. For 1-meter, Piner made the B- Final to score 276.45 points for a 12th place finish. At his first Diving Zone meet he had a top 20 finish in the platform event for 17th in a score of 289.95. He also competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter spring board for 46th in 217.05 and 38th in 268.90 respectively. Piner competed at the Purdue Invite to be the highest ranked Cardinal for 6th place in 278.60 on platform.
Prep: Sean came to the Cardinals from Lilburn, Ga. where he dove for Coach John Ames at Atlanta Diving Association. He dove for Coach Bettie Hudson at Parkview High School. In 2011, he was the USA Diving Age Group National Champion. In 2012, he was a Junior National Diving Championship qualifier. A three-time High School All-American, he was also a three-time state runner-up and the high school record holder for six and 11 drives. A three-time county champion and was a two-time dive team captain in 2011 and 2012.
