Bio
Junior: Matthias Lindenbauer continues to be a stalwart competitor for the Cards. At NCAAs, he was a part of the 7th place 800-free relay team (6:15.86), splitting 1:34.04. He split 19.67 in the Cards 15th place 200-free relay (1:18.24). In the 400-free relay, he split 43.12 enroute to a 2:51.47. He scored 53 points at the ACC Championships. He split 1:33.86 on the silver medal 800-free relay squad (6:14.96) and was second in the B-final of the 500-free with a 4:22.01. He won bronze on the 200-free relay team (1:18.15) with a split of 19.97. He made the A-final inf the 200-free with a fifth place time of 1:34.98. He was in the B-final of the 100-free with a 43.76 and was a part of the 4th place 400-free relay (2:53.96) with a leadoff leg of 43.58. At the Arena Pro Series in Indy, he was 18th in the 200-meter free with a 1:51.50 and was 8th in the 100-meter free with 50.99. During the dual meet season, he had wins in the 100-free versus Kentucky, Cincinnati and Tennessee. He was first in the 200-free versus Xavier, Florida State, and he won the event at the UofL Invitational.
Sophomore: Matthias was All-ACC in four events and was an All-American and an honorable mention All-American. He scored 62 points at the ACC Championships. He was fifth in the 200-free, with a 1:34.66 in the finals and then was 10th in the 500-free in 4:22.15. He won the B-final of the 100-free with a ninth place overall in 43.50. He was also a part of the second place 800-free relay team, swimming the second leg in 1:34.38. At the NCAA Championships, he was a part of three relay teams. The Cards finished 8th in the 400-free relay where he had a leadoff leg of 43.50. In the NCAA 200-free relay, UofL was 12th and he swam the third leg in 19.37 and then led off the 800-free relay with a 1:35.32. At the USA Short Course Nationals, he was part of the winning 4x200 Free Relay when he anchored with a 1:34.52 split and helped the Cards touched second in the 4x100 medley relay, when he anchored in 43.16. He made the A-final in the 200-free where he finished seventh with a 1:35.74 and then made the B-final in the 100-free with a 43.53 for ninth place overall. At the USA National Championships, he was part of the fifth place 4x200 Free Relay, with a leadoff split of 1:50.57. While there, he also competed in the finals of the 4x100 meter medley relay where the Cards touched 14th overall and he anchored in 49.31. Dual meet highlights include three firsts against Cincinnati when he won the 200-free (1:38.81), the 500-free (4:34.81) and the 200-free relay, swimming the third leg in 20.41. Against rival Kentucky, he was second in the 200-free (1:39.01) and third in the 100-free (45.17) and was a part of the winning 400-free relay when he swam a third leg split of 45.20. At the Cardinal Invitational, he was 200-free with a 1:38.05.
Freshman: Matthias helped place the 400- and 800-freestyle relays first at the American Conference Championships, and was the runner up in the 200-freestyle. He also took third in the 100- and 500-freestyle events. All of his achievements led to his spot on the All-American Conference team. Matthias provided depth to the relays at the NCAA Championships while helping the 400-free relay squad land a second place finish in the consolation bracket and 10th in the 800-free relay.
Prep: Matthias Lindenbauer hails from Dortmund, Germany where he attended Goethe- Gymnasium Dortmund, and swam for SG Dortmund. In 2012, Lindenbauer won a gold medal in the 50- meter butterfly at German Youth Championships, a silver medal in the 100- meter freestyle, and another silver medal in the 200- meter freestyle. Lindenbauer was a finalist in the 100- meter freestyle at the German Nationals, and took sixth place in the 200- freestyle at Short Course German Nationals. Lindenbauer has also earned multiple medals from the German Youth Championships from as early as 2007.
Personal: Matthias Lindenbauer is the son of Karl-Heinz and Anna-Katharina Lindenbauer. Born September 30, 1993. Major is civil engineering.
