Freshman: As a freshman, Manuela Sampaio scored six points at the ACC Championships. She finished 23rd in the 200-IM with a 2:02.35. She was a finalist in the 400-IM where she boarded a 4:19.34 for 23rd and in the 200-breast, clocking a 2:17.31 for 23rd. Highlights from the dual meet season include a 2:09.15 in the 200-fly at Florida State. She had a 1:05.38 in the 100-breast and a 2:04.21 in the 200-IM at the UofL Invitational . Against FSU, she went 2:21.27 in the 200-breast. At the Arena Pro Series in Indy, she was a finalist in the 400-IM (5:11.80) and the 200-meter breast with a 2:39.63.
Prep: Manuela Sampaio joins the Cardinals from nearby Elizabethtown, Ky. where she swam for Elizabethtown High School and the Elizabethtown Dolphins, both coached by her father, Maviael Sampaio. She is a state champion in the 200 Breast and runner-up in the 400 IM. Sampaio also has citizenship in Brazil and finished second in the 200 Breast at Brazilian Nationals. She was captain of her team, Region Swimmer of the Year and a Scholastic All-American. Her best times are 1:09.79 in the 100-breast and 2:27.49 in the 200-breast.
