Bio
Junior: Liberty Williams continued her career as a Cardinal as the anchor of the distance squad. At the NCAA Championships in Knoxville, she finished ninth in the 1650 with a time of 15.55.29. She was 48th in the 500 free with a 4:45.27. She scored 50 points for the Cardinals at the ACC Championships. She won bronze in the 1650 with a 16:03.60. She was fifth in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.63 in the A-final. In the 200 free, she was 57th in 1:52.70. During the dual meet season, she placed third in the 1000 free versus Xavier. At Notre Dame, she won the 1000 free (10:00.73) and the 500 free (4:53.24). At the Purdue Invitational, she won the 1650 with a time of 16:10.48. She also won the 500 free with a time of 4:40.35. At both Missouri and Kentucky, she was second in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle. Against Indiana, she was fourth in both the 1000 and 500 free. In the meet with Cincinnati, she won the 500 free.
Sophomore: Liberty has worked hard to become one of the best distance swimmers in the country. Last season, she set a new school record in the 1000 freestyle (9:30.02) and the 1650 (15:43.21). At ACCs, she scored 69 points, winning gold in the 1650 freestyle (15:43.2) after knocking more than 10 seconds off her entry time. She won silver in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.82. She won the C-final of the 200 free with a time of 1:46.51. At NCAAs, she posted a 4:42.24 in the 500 free and was 13th in the 1650 with a time of 16:04.15. During the dual season, she was second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:08.83 at Tennessee. At the Purdue Invitational, she was second in the 1650 free with a time of 16:36.31 and third in the 500 free with a time of 4:48.57. In the meet with Indiana, she won the 500 free with a time of 4:40.10 and won the 1000 free, boarding a 9:33.23. Against rival Kentucky, she won the 500 free (4:38.79) and the 1650 (15:53.60). She also won the 1000 versus Cincinnati with a 9:45.83.
Freshman: Williams had a breakout season during her first year with the Cardinals. At the NCAA Championships, she finished 26th in the mile (16:18.49) and also raced the 500 freestyle (4:40.38). At the ACC Championships, she earned silver in the mile with a time of 16:06.56 and also placed ninth in the 500 freestyle (4:44.05) and 38th in the 200 freestyle (1:51.26). Her mile time at ACCs, which was swum during the early heats, lowered the UofL freshman record. Williams also finished second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 1000 freestyle in the dual meet against Cincinnati. For her efforts in the classroom, she was named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
Prep: A native of Menton, California, Williams joins the Cardinals after her club career with Riverside Aquatics Association where she was a three-time Olympic Trials qualifier. At Juniors West in 2019, she was the runner-up in the 1650 freestyle and earned bronze in the 500 freestyle. Williams posted three top-15 finishes at Junior Nationals in 2018 and finished 17th in the 1500m freestyle at Phillips 66 Nationals in 2019. At the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, she was ranked No. 10 in the U.S. for 17 & Unders in the mile. During her career at Redlands East Valley High School, she was a five-time individual CIF State Championship finalist and two-time CIF Southern DII Section Champion gold medallist. Williams, who was named the 2019 Press Enterprise Girls Swimmer of the Year, also earned NISCA All-American honors. She holds best times of 4:46.19 in the 500 freestyle, 9:47.15 in the 1000 freestyle, and 16:21.09 in the 1650 freestyle.
