2024-25: As a sprint specialist for the Cardinals, Avery had wins in the 50 free at the Louisville Last Chance (22.64) and the UofL First Chance Meet (22.74) and added a win in the 100 free (49.57). She was sixth in the 100 free versus Indiana (49.32). Against rival Kentucky, Avery was fifth in the 100 free (50.53). At Notre Dame, she was third in the 50 free (22.76) and was fifth in the 50 free against Tennessee.

Prep: Karl brings her talented sprinting ability to Louisville from Leawood, Kansas, where she swam for Empire Kansas City with coach Thomas Baumen. She earned first place finishes in the 50m Fly and 50m Free at the 2024 Speedo Sectionals in Columbia. Karl also competed at the Speedo Winter West Championships in 2023, taking fourth place in the 50yd Free. The year prior, she took first place in the 50yd Free at the 2022 Winter West Championships as well. She claimed another top five finish at the 2022 Speedo Junior National Championships by taking fourth in the 50m Free. Karl was a US Olympic Trial qualifier in both 2021 and 2024.
