Nugent Walks Off Clemson, Davis Sets Home Run Record
April 26, 2026 | Baseball
With one on and one out in a tie game in the bottom of the 10th, Nugent stepped to the plate and hammered the first pitch he saw just inside the left field foul pole to give the Cardinals the victory.
Louisville (26-18, 10-11 ACC) completed the sweep of Clemson with the win and extended its winning streak to five straight.
In addition to Nugent's heroics in the 10th, it was a record day at the plate for Tague Davis.
The sophomore hit his 26th home run of the season to straightaway centerfield leading off the eighth inning to break Louisville's single-season home run record held previously by Randy Delph (1974) and Chris Dominguez (2009).
Lucas Moore also secured his 100th career stolen base in the ninth inning, becoming the second player in program history and eighth in ACC history to reach the century mark.
Before Nugent homered in the 10th, the junior started the scoring on Sunday with a solo home run in the second.
Clemson (26-19, 6-15) tied the game in the third before the Cards regained the lead on a Zion Rose hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom half.
The Tigers evened it up again in the next inning, but a two-run shot off the bat of Ben Slanker in the bottom half of the fourth put Louisville back on top.
Clemson cut the lead to one with a run in the fifth, however the Cardinals put up zeros in the sixth, seventh and eighth before Davis hit his record-breaking homer to make it a two-run game heading into the ninth.
Louisville had the Tigers down to their final out with the bases loaded before allowing a two-run single that tied up the game.
Eli Hoyt (1-0) earned his first win at Louisville with a scoreless 10th inning. Casen Murphy didn't allow a run over two innings in his first start of the season, while Colton Hartman gave up just one run over three innings out of the bullpen.
Nugent finished 3-for-5 on the day with his first multi-homer game of the season to go along with a double and three RBIs.
Louisville will wrap up a five-game homestand on Tuesday night against Indiana. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
