Cards Set for Midweek Pair Against Marshall
March 09, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team welcomes Marshall to Jim Patterson Stadium for a two-game midweek set Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will be televised on ACC Network Extra with radio coverage on 970 WGTK.
WEEKEND SWEEPING
For the second consecutive weekend, the Cardinals swept a three-game series at Jim Patterson Stadium. Louisville claimed run-rule victories on Friday (16-1) and Saturday (13-3) before a 6-2 win in the Sunday finale.
ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE
Louisville put together its best weekend of the year against Seton Hall, playing well in all three areas – hitting, pitching, fielding. The Cardinals scored 35 runs on 37 hits in the three wins, while the pitching staff allowed just six runs in 24 innings.
MARSHALL SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Marshall will meet this week for the first time in nearly 20 years. The two sides played in each of Dan McDonnell's first two seasons at Louisville, but haven't played since 2008. The Cardinals are 7-2 in nine all-time meetings against the Herd, having won six straight in the series.

TEAM NOTES
- Louisville has been one of the best defensive teams in the country this season, ranking 13th nationally with a .985 fielding percentage.
- The Cardinals rank top 40 nationally in runs per game, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits and triples
PLAYER NOTES
- Tague Davis announced his presence at the plate in 2025, setting the Louisville freshman home run record with 18 long balls in his first season. The first baseman tied for the ACC regular season lead in home runs and was the first Louisville freshman to hit double-digit homers since Alex Binelas in 2019. Davis currently leads the ACC with eight homers after leaving the yard in each game of the Seton Hall series. The sophomore is also second in the ACC with 28 RBIs, the highest total by a Louisville player through 15 games since at least 2000.
- Griffin Crain missed the 2025 season due to injury, but is making the most of the start to his career on the field this spring. Through the first 15 games, Crain is leading the team with a .419 average and is second with 19 RBIs. The sophomore has been clutch as well, delivering a go-ahead double that proved to be the game-winner against Nebraska as well as a walk-off single in game two against Central Michigan.
- Jimmy Nugent transferred to Louisville after tallying 22 doubles, 18 home runs and 74 RBIs in two seasons at Lincoln Trail. However, the junior got off to a slow start this spring, hitting just .258 through the first 10 games. Nugent has heated up since the calendar turned to March though, going 8-for-15 (.533) with two doubles and a homer during a five-game hitting streak.
- Bayram Hot split time at second base in 2025 in his first season with the Cardinals after transferring from Marist, hitting .326 with three doubles and three homers in 92 at-bats. The senior has started all 15 games this spring at third base and has been excellent at the plate. Hot has already surpassed his 2025 totals for doubles, walks and stolen bases, and is just one shy of his home run total from a year ago.
- Aaron England made just five appearances in 2025, recording just 4.1 innings on the mound. He's been thrust into a major role in the bullpen this spring, however, having been called upon to close out Louisville's victories over Nebraska, Eastern Kentucky and the series finale against Central Michigan. England has not given up a hit in those outings, recording his first three career saves.
