Thursday’s match will be a doubleheader with the men’s program
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After opening the season on the road against SEC opponents, the Louisville women's soccer team returns home to kick start a long stretch of matches on campus. The Cardinals are preparing for their home opener against Detroit Mercy, set for Thursday August 21 at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Thursday's match will be part of a doubleheader with the men's program taking on Southern Indiana at 5 p.m. before the Cardinals and Titans square off at 7:30 p.m. ET. Both matches will be streamed on ACC Network Extra and as always, admission is free to all soccer matches this season.
Louisville went 1-1 in the opening week of the season facing off against two strong SEC opponents in Auburn and No. 17 Vanderbilt. In its 1-0 win over Auburn, the Cardinals shut out the Tigers at home for the first time in their last 12 matches. It was Auburn's first loss at home since Sept. 29, 2023, as they were 8-0-3 at home during the 2024 season.
Thursday's match against Detroit Mercy will start a six-game homestand for the Cardinals as they will be at home for the entirety of the next three weeks. Stretching to the final week of September, nine of the next 10 games for the Cardinals will be at home.
Louisville has been strong at home as it has compiled a 10-4-7 record at Lynn Stadium and their defense has been especially strong at home. Last season, the Cardinals were 6-2-3 overall at home and allowed just five goals in the 11 home games. On the season, Louisville had seven clean sheets and six of them came at home last year. The Cards have recorded 10 clean sheets at home over the past two seasons.
Following Thursday's match against Detroit Mercy, the Cardinals will close the week with a match on Sunday, August 24 at Lynn Stadium. Louisville welcomes Wright State to town as the two teams will face off at 7 p.m. ET with the match set to stream on the ACC Network Extra.
