Cards Drop Nail-Biter to No. 26-Ranked Georgia Tech 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -The University of Louisville women's tennis team upset bid came up just short against No. 26 Georgia Tech as the Cards fell 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cardinals are now 10-8 overall and 2-7 against ACC opponents. Georgia Tech moves to 12-8 with the win.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start, sweeping all three doubles courts. The biggest eye opener of the day was the upset performance from Berta Miret and Lika Peresypkina, who defeated the 57th ranked duo 6-3 over Roach and Alejandra Cruz at No. 2. Allie Gretkowski and Alice Otis  downed Kylie Bilchev and Scarlett Nicholson 6-3 at No. 1. The No. 3 pair Elena Noguero and Elisabeth lila beat Taly Licht and Kate Sharabura 6-2 for the doubles point.

The Yellow Jackets took the first singles point when Taly Lich defeated Germany Davis 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. Not long after that the Cardinals lost on courts 1 and 4. Â The Cards pushed back when Elisabeth lila won at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3). At No. 3, Elena Noguero squeaked out a win over Kate Sharabura with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory. The match came down to the No. 2 court being decided between Lika Peresypkina and No. 104-ranked Alejandra Cruz. Peresypkina took the first set easily but but Alejandra regrouped to win the match 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The Cardinals will continue ACC play at home on Sunday with a noon match against Clemson.
