LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team has announced that Rebekkah Gaines is transferring from the University of New Mexico to join the Cardinals this fall.
"I am excited to announce the addition of Rebekkah Gaines to Louisville Women's Tennis," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "Assistant coach Breaunna Addison and I thought it was important to bring in some experience in hopes of continuing the momentum the program built with last season's team. Rebekkah has played the No.1 position at her previous two schools she's played for, so she has played a lot of high level matches. She only will have one year with us but she wants to play at the highest level possible and I think she will have a positive impact in singles and doubles."
Â
Gaines has 55+ career wins primarily at the No. 1 singles and doubles slots at both FAMU and UNM.  Gaines played two seasons for the Florida A&M Rattlers, combining to go 17-1 in singles and doubles in conference play in her two years as she led the team to the 2023 SWAC Tournament championship and a berth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and a 2024 regular season shared title. She was named First Team All-SWAC at No. 1 singles in both 2023 and 2024 and was a member of the 2023 and 2024 All-SWAC Tournament Team.
Â
At New Mexico, she went 6-11 overall in singles and amassed an 8-11 record in doubles. The Lobos posted an 8-16 record as a squad, going 2-8 in the Mountain West.
Â
She notched doubles wins over South Carolina, Tulsa, Weber St., Colorado, UNLV, UTEP, Colorado State,  and Troy . Signatures singles wins include opponents from Weber State, Abilene Christian, Wyoming, Idaho, San Jose State, UTEP, and Troy. She was an NAU Finalist and reached the round of 16 in the ITA Regionals.
