
Cardinal Swimmers Shine On International Stage

UofL showout at Maria Lenk/Brazilian National Championships
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – The University of Louisville swimming team sent six Cardinals to compete in the 2025 Maria Lenk Trophy/Brazilian Swimming Championships at Flamengo Pool in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, last week.Â
Nick and Gabi Albiero, Gustavo Saldo, Murilo Sartori, Fernanda Celidonio and Leticia Ramão represented the Ville on the international stage. Â
Day OneÂ
Senior Fernanda Celidonio kicked off the weekend by securing silver in the 100 breaststroke and a personal best time of 1:09.99. She also helped her 400m relay team place third with a time of 3:48.62. Graduate Gabi Albiero had a strong start as well, placing second in the women's 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.51. Albiero picked up a bronze finish in the 100 butterfly, coming in at just under a minute at 59.92. To wrap up day one, senior Murilo Sartori capped off a successful day for the Cards with a 3:16.94 third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.Â
Day TwoÂ
In the 100 backstroke, Nick Albiero finished national runner-up with a time of 54.67. Â Â
Day ThreeÂ
On Thursday, Gabi Albiero once again kicked off the day for the Cards. She posted a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 55.46. Leticia Ramão followed suit by placing a personal best and finishing national runner-up in the 1500 freestyle. Ramão recorded a program record as well with her time of 16:21.26 in the event. Â
Day FourÂ
On the final day for the Cardinals, senior Gustavo Saldo grabbed the Cards lone gold medal from the week. Saldo swam a blistering 1:57.46 to finish first in the 200 butterfly to claim the Brazilian national title. Gabi Albiero wrapped up the Championships for the Cards by claiming her fourth medal of the week, taking bronze in the 50 freestyle with a 25.29 pace. Â
