Cards Drop Series Finale Against No. 25 Virginia
April 19, 2025 | Softball
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Despite a promising start on the base paths, Louisville (23-20, 6-12 ACC) couldn't find the offensive spark it needed, falling 6-0 to Virginia (33-14, 13-8 ACC) in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.
Louisville put early pressure on Virginia starter with Easton Lotus drawing a walk to open the game and quickly stealing second. A sacrifice bunt by Chelsea Mack moved Lotus to third, but the Cardinals couldn't cash in, as a strikeout and flyout ended the threat.
Virginia wasted no time responding. Lead-off hitter Jade Hylton hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom half of the first, giving the Cavaliers an early 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals continued to put runners on base in the early innings with singles from Bri Despines and Char Lorenz, but the UVA defense and timely pitching held strong, stranding four Louisville baserunners over the first three innings.
The Cavaliers extended their lead in the sixth inning with a five-run outburst.
Louisville's offense was limited to just three hits on the day. Despite strong small-ball execution early, the Cards couldn't generate the timely hit to break through against Virginia.
The Cards will return to action with a four-game homestand this week, starting with in-state foe WKU on Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. ET on the ACCN. Louisville will then host top-ranked Florida State over the weekend with games scheduled on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6 p.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m., respectively. Sunday night's game will be aired nationally on the ACCN.
