Cards Fall Short Against WKU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team fell to Western Kentucky 2-0 Tuesday night at Ulmer Stadium.
With the loss, the Cards drop to 23-21 while WKU improves to 25-19.
The Hilltoppers threatened to score in the first inning after a hit, fielder's choice, and a walk loaded the bases with two outs. Brooke Gray entered the game and delivered a strikeout to keep WKU off the board.
Louisville had a chance to break through in the second when Ally Alexander singled and Jac Hasty followed with a walk to put two runners on with one out, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize.
The Hilltoppers got on the scoreboard in the top of the third. After two hits and a walk loaded the bases, Macy Gregor connected on an RBI-single to give Western Kentucky a 1-0 lead.
UofL had another opportunity to score in the home half of the third when Easton Lotus singled and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Char Lorenz, but a ground out ended the inning.
In the top of the fourth, WKU used Annie White's sacrifice fly to add another run.
Gray (8-8) took the loss after surrendering two earned runs on six hits and striking out three in 4.1 innings of relief. Sam Booe held the Hilltoppers scoreless in the final two innings.
Erica Houge (8-9) got the complete game win after giving up two hits and striking out three. Morgan Sharpe led WKU at the plate going 3-for-4.
The Cards will play their final home stand in a three-game series this weekend starting Friday, April 25th against fellow ACC team, No. 6/7 Florida State. The first pitch on Friday is slated for 6 p.m. on ACCNX.
