Louisville Drops Game 2 Road Contest to No. 25 Virginia

The Cards will play in the rubber match tomorrow at 12 p.m. noon
Charlottesville, Va. — The University of Louisville softball team battled back to even the score midway through Friday's game, but a big fourth inning from Virginia proved to be the difference as the Cardinals fell, 8-2, at Palmer Park.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, the Cardinals answered in the top of the third. Chelsea Mack led things off with a single up the middle and later scored on an RBI single from Madison Pickens. A fielding error by Virginia allowed a second run to cross, tying the game at 2-2.
Virginia responded in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from M.C. Eaton and a series of defensive miscues that allowed three unearned runs.
Despite the setback, Louisville kept competing. In the circle, Alyssa Zabala and Sam Booe combined for relief appearances, with Booe working the final two innings. Offensively, the Cardinals tallied four runs on seven hits, with Mack, Pickens, and Despines each collecting base knocks.
Virginia would add one more run in the sixth off a string of singles to push the score to its final mark.
Louisville (23-19, 6-11 ACC) will look to bounce back in the series finale tomorrow at 12 p.m. noon. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX.
