Louisville falls 18-5 at top-ranked, defending national champion Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Louisville lacrosse team fell 18-5 to top-ranked Boston College in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Five different players scored for the Cardinals with Negai Nakazawa, Charlotte Jackson, Izzy Seikel, Abby Scully and Abigail Cole tallying a goal apiece and Reese Whiteman delivering an assist.

The defending national champion Eagles (10-0, 4-0 ACC) got on the board with a goal from Molly Driscoll in the third minute of the game and went on to take a 3-0 lead before the Cardinals (4-5, 1-3) broke through with a goal by Negai Nakazawa. BC tacked on three more scores to extend the lead to 6-1 at the end of the opening quarter.

In the second frame, the Eagles continued their offense with four more goals until Abby Scully found the back of the net on a free position shot to stop the run to make the score 10-2. Boston College closed the quarter with three unanswered goals to take a 13-2 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, the teams played through seven scoreless minutes and the Cardinals struck first with back-to-back goals by Jackson and Cole within a three-minute span. The Eagles countered, scoring twice to make it a 15-4 game.

Louisville opened the fourth quarter with a goal by Seikel, but Boston College finished the game with three unanswered goals, bringing the final score to 18-5.

In the game, BC outshot the Cardinals 34-22 with a 22-12 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles also led in draw controls (17-8) and groundballs (10-8). Rachel Clark had a game-high six goals to pace the Eagles offensively. Nakazawa and Olivia Scroggie earned three draw controls each while Scully tallied two groundballs to lead Louisville.

J Pleck picked up three saves for the Cardinals while Hanna John had one stop. BC's Shea Dolce collected seven saves.

The Cardinals will return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier.
