No. 21 Cardinals Host SMU in Regular Season Finale

Louisville looks to finish the season unbeaten at home
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 21 Louisville women's soccer team (12-3-2, 5-2-2 ACC) is preparing for their final game of the regular season this week before postseason play awaits. The Cardinals are set to host SMU (8-7-2, 2-5-2 ACC) on Thursday, October 30 for the regular season finale at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals and Mustangs will square off at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Heading into Thursday's match, the Cardinals own a 9-0-1 record at home and have had a lot of success at Lynn Stadium this season. In their 10 home games, they have outscored opponents 41-3 and allowed goals in just two of the 10 home games. They had a streak of seven-straight home games without allowing a goal at home.
Louisville is coming off a 3-0 road victory over NC State last Thursday. The game was scoreless heading into the 70th minute until the Cardinals offense finished the game with a flurry. AG Gibson broke through with her fourth goal of the season to put the Cards ahead. Betsy Huckaby and Amelia Swinarski scored within a minute of each other in the final moments to seal the 3-0 win.
With the win over the Wolfpack, Louisville secured a crucial three points in the ACC standings as the regular season winds down this week. The Cardinals have 17 points in conference play and are in a three-way tie for fourth place. The top-six teams advance to the ACC Championship following the regular season.
SMU enters Thursday's match with a 8-7-2 overall record and are 2-5-2 in ACC play. SMU has conference wins over Pitt (4-0) and Cal (2-1), draws against Syracuse (1-1) and Miami (0-0) and defeats to NC State (0-1), Clemson (2-3), No. 2 Notre Dame (0-3), No. 23 North Carolina (0-3) and No. 2 Stanford (1-5). This will be the second meeting all-time as the only meeting prior was when the two teams were conference foes in The American during the 2013 season. Louisville defeated SMU 4-2 in the previous meeting down in Dallas.
