Louisville Opens 2026 Women's Soccer Season at Home Against Nebraska

Cards will face the Cornhuskers for the first time in program history
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team will open its 2026 campaign with a midweek matchup against Nebraska on Wednesday, August 12. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

After having one of its most successful seasons in 2025 with a record of 13-5-3, Louisville returns a majority of its production including its two leading goal scorers in Amelia Swinarski (10) and Liza Suydam (6). Betsy Huckaby, AG Gibson and Karina Peat will also be returning to the pitch for the Cards and each scored three or more goals in 2025.
In addition to returning 16 letterwinners, Louisville adds four collegiate transfers to the squad in defender Eefje Bötjer (Coastal Carolina), midfielder Abby Cox (Rutgers), forward Liz Eddy (SMU) and defender Norah Roush (Ohio).
Head coach Hunter Norton is set to make his debut at the helm, taking over for Karen Ferguson-Dayes who announced her retirement after 26 years as the Cardinals' leader in February. But, the Georgia Southern alum is not new to Louisville as he was a part of the women's soccer staff for 11 years and spent the last four of those as an associate head coach.
The Cards are trying to build off the momentum from their 2025 slate where they broke numerous records including posting program best marks in the regular season with 13 wins, 53 goals, 60 assists and 166 points.
UofL maintained its drive going into the postseason when they advanced to the NCAA tournament second round for the third time in program history and first time since 2019. In the first round while at their home stadium, the Cards defeated in-state rival Kentucky with a 5-4 edge in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation.
Swinarski has received high preseason praise as she was named to both the Preseason All-ACC Team and the Hermann Trophy Midfielders Watch List. Last season, the junior was named to the 2025 All-ACC Second Team after earning the team lead in the major offensive categories with 10 goals, 10 assists (tied with Suydam) and 30 points.

Scouting the Cornhuskers: Nebraska posted a 8-5-5 record and was 3-5-3 in Big 10 play during the 2025 season. Kayma Carpenter and Ella Rudney led the Cornhuskers with six goals and a team-best 15 points last season and will be returning for Nebraska.
