This is the final road game of the regular season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The 20th-ranked Louisville women's soccer team (11-3-2, 4-2-2 ACC) is back out on the road for the final time in the regular season this week. The Cardinals are heading back down to North Carolina as they are set to face off with NC State (5-6-4, 4-1-2 ACC) on Thursday, October 23. The Cardinals and Wolfpack are set to square off at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Last time out for the Cardinals, they used a late equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw against No. 3 Virginia Saturday at Lynn Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Virginia got on the board first in the 48th minute after a shot deflected off a defender and ended up in the back of the net. The score stayed 1-0 Virginia til the 86th minute when Amelia Swinarski scored her team-best eighth off the assist from Brooklyn Lee. The draw was the Cardinals second-straight against a ranked foe after the 1-1 road draw with No. 13 Wake Forest on Oct. 9.
With just two regular season games remaining, the Cardinals are positioning themselves to qualify for the ACC Tournament. Only the Top 6 teams make the ACC Women's Soccer Tournament and the Cardinals are currently in a four-way tie for fourth place with 14 points. One of the four teams tied with the Cardinals at 14 points is NC State along with No. 11 Florida State and No. 3 Virginia. Thursday's match will have big implications on the final ACC standings and ultimately who advanced to the ACC Tournament.
NC State enters the match with a 5-6-4 overall record but have turned it around in ACC play and have a 4-1-2 conference record. In conference play, they have wins over SMU (1-0), No. 12 Wake Forest (2-1), Boston College (1-0) and Pitt (1-0). They have draws against Virginia Tech (4-4) and No. 7 Florida State (1-1) and their lone conference loss is against No. 6 Notre Dame (1-2). This will be the 12th meeting all-time between the two teams and the series is tied 5-5-1. The Cardinals are 3-2 all-time in games played in Raleigh and have won each of the last two matchups against the Wolfpack. It will be their first trip to Raleigh since 2022 which resulted in a 1-0 Louisville win for head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes 200th career win with the Cards.
