October 16, 2025 | Men's Soccer
The Cards have won only twice in Winston-Salem with victories in 2011 and 2018
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The University of Louisville men's soccer team continues its three-match road swing with a visit to ACC foe Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. ET inside Spry Stadium. The contest will stream live on ACCNX.
Louisville (5-5-2, 1-5-0 ACC) looks to snap a seven-match winless stretch and earn its first victory in Winston-Salem since 2018, when the Cardinals captured a 2-1 overtime win. In 2023, the Cards played the Demon Deacons to a 2-2 draw in their most recent meeting at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Head coach John Michael Hayden, now in his seventh season at the helm, owns a 1-4-1 record against Wake Forest, including a 3-0 victory over the then-No. 25 Demon Deacons in 2021.
The Cardinals opened the 2025 campaign with five consecutive shutout wins—the longest season-opening streak in program history—highlighted by a 1-0 upset over then-No. 1 Stanford. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff has anchored the Louisville defense, recording six shutouts while posting a 0.83 goals-against average.
Offensively, Chase Vazquez leads the Cardinals with three goals and two assists, followed closely by Michael Lee and Nicholas Parham, who have each contributed two goals and two assists. Parham has emerged as one of Louisville's top freshmen, finding the net in key moments, including a strike just 44 seconds into the second half of the rivalry draw against Kentucky.
Wake Forest (6-3-3, 1-3-1 ACC) earned its first conference win of the season on Oct. 11 against Cal. Senior forward Tate Lorentz and midfielder Cooper Flax have led the Deacons' attack, combining for 11 goals and eight assists on the year.
Louisville holds a 4-12-1 all-time record against Wake Forest, with both of its road wins coming in 2011 and 2018.
Following Friday's match, the Cardinals will wrap up their road swing at Lipscomb on Oct. 21 before returning home to face Evansville on Oct. 27 at Lynn Stadium.
