Cardinals Pick Up 1-1 Draw at Boston College

Gage Guerra scored his third goal of the season in the match.
NEWTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team notched a 1-1 draw at Boston College in ACC action on Sunday.
Louisville (4-3-2, 0-2-2 ACC) got a standout performance from freshman AJ Piela in goal, recording a career best nine saves, the most by a UofL goalkeeper since Alex Svetanoff stopped 11 shots against Clemson last November.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Cardinals were the first on the scoreboard early in the second half.
Carrying the majority of the possession to start the final half, Michael Lee sent a cross in from the left side. Gage Guerra got his right foot on the end of it at the right post and tapped it home to give Louisville the lead in the 53rd minute.
The goal was the third of the season for Guerra, moving him into a tie for the team lead, however it was his first since scoring in each of the first two matches this season.
Boston College (3-2-5, 0-2-2) went on the attack following the goal, testing Piela in just his second career start.
The Eagles took 11 shots over the next 33 minutes, five of which Piela recorded a save on and another that required a team save to stay out.
However, the Eagles finally broke through in the 86th minute. A BC corner kick found the head of Josh Jones, who headed the ball away from the goal. The clearance found a BC head near the top of the box and was headed back toward the net where a second header popped it up and over Piela and in for the tying goal.
Boston College took the only shot over the final four minutes as both teams searched for the game-winner, but the shot sailed over the crossbar.
The Eagles outshot Louisville 20-11 on the afternoon and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Next up for Louisville is its first-ever conference trip out to the West Coast. The Cardinals head to Cal for a Thursday match with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
